kerbstone no. 7

Cast into the bone of a cephalopod, this ancient technique of casting within a cuttlebone allows for organic moulding of organic metal against the unique markings within the cuttlefish bone.

During wash ups on the sea, the flotsam can bring ashore masses of cuttlebone – during storms I have hand-combed these pieces from the shores where I live, and have carved into them designs for my kerbstone series.
Heating molten metal and seeing what nature decides to formulate from the combination, this is a bespoke ring with none other like it. Forged in pewter, filed and finished by hand, I finally stamp these pieces with iconography as seen on the ancient kerbstones of neolithic monuments and buildings such as Newgrange. The organic formation of these pieces allows them to look like kin to these ancient stones – they could fall within the mud for hundreds of years, and be found again, perfectly suited to their earthly home.
Each piece is lovingly hand-carved, hand-cast, handmade, and hand finished. They are made from lead-free pewter which is safe for your skin.
