Well Of the Mad Postcard

from £1.50
Tobar na nGealt // Well Of the Mad

The well of the mad has long been a story floating around my head. A tale of a healing well used historically by the people of Kerry and even a spot of pilgrimage from around other counties of ireland, the water within the well was thought to be blessed and graced by The Good People (the fairies) and was a spot of healing for mental suffering and illness (at these times, mentally ill people sometimes would have been seen as 'away with the fairies').

As time passed, scientists and folklorists alike considered - is it really healing, or is it a placebo? Could these ancient peoples have really known how to aid mental illness, or were they just drinking strange water making them go a bit fruity?

When tested, the water was proved to have lithium minerals within it, which had risen up from a far below deposit within the rocks and earth of this place.

A postcard for this incredible wee story. will be sent out uk 1st class or int. standard.
