Found in a cave in Germany names Hohle Fels, this incredible piece of human history was originally carved out of Mammoth Ivory, and thought to be worn as an amulet, just like this replica.
Only discovered in 2008, it is dated to be over 35,000 years old. The Hohle Fels cave is in the Swabian Alb region, and has been a place of mass discovery of hand-carved mammoth ornaments, art, and talismen - the figures potentially being some of the earliest evidence of practiced religion. The venuses are a strong talisman of fertility, femininity, and reproduction - but also, of the long standing history of humans, beliefs, and art.
Each piece has been handcast at our workshop in pewter, and finished by hand - this ensures high quality products and means that each one will be unique! Some may have lines on them as part of a memory to the complex hand-moulding process they go through, only adding to their beauty. I then finish each piece with an oxidising coating, which leaves darker colourations in the grooves of the mould, bringing out the details in the metal.
