Whitby Abstract Stone

UISCE // WHITBY STONE

The prehistoric coastline of Whitby offers up a trove of jetsam and flotsam from both the unique ancient cliffs which homes Whitby Abbey, and the iconic historic harbour of Whitby which has sheltered its residents and fishermen for generations. Humble things of beauty can be found among the seaweed, and in the sand. The waves hew and polish pieces of discarded glass, pottery, and stone - the earth makes and gives birth to new items from old, which I collect by hand when travelling and turn into these one of a kind necklaces, which I choose carefully and produce with the utmost care.

This necklace is crafted simply but elegantly with a gold-plated sterling silver fitting, a gold-plated sterling silver 45cm chain, and an abstract pattern Whitby sandstone, the markings potentially being iron ore. I crafted it with simple wire and fittings, the colour and light of the stone the source of the beauty. Each item is sent in quality packaging and ideal item for those inspired by the sea and minding of our impact on it.

The handmade nature of them makes them very delicate, and I do not recommend wearing this jewellery in the shower, or in bed, as it may wear it down.
